The Photographer
John Walrath
“I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
Eric Liddell — Chariots of FireThose words have always captured something I struggle to put into words myself — the feeling of being exactly where you're supposed to be. For me, that place is behind a camera.
Photography is more than a skill or a hobby. It's a calling. My journey began in childhood, learning from my father in our basement darkroom. Those early lessons sparked something that took root years later while earning my BFA, when black and white photography became more than a class requirement — it became a passion and a way of seeing.
For over twenty years, Williamsburg has been my home and my favorite subject. I know these streets in every season and every light — before the crowds arrive and after they leave.
Captured In Williamsburg was born out of a simple desire: to be more intentional about sharing what I find here. I hope these photographs invite you to see this place the way I do.
